Stirling LJ943 and N-6035

Post by mckeesie »

Hello

We (foundation WO2GO, see website http://www.wo2go.nl) are still looking for data and photos of Stirling LJ943.
LJ943 and its crew failed to return on 21 September 1944 during a same re-supply mission to Arhnem. LJ943 crashed in a field near Zetten, close to the location of LJ982 of 190 Squadron lost the same day.

For our exhibition next year we want to build a model of NJ943 but we do not have accurate photo's of the (pannier) hatch in the rear of the fuselage. who can help us? And are there any photo's of this aircraft and crew?

A second Stirling and its crew we are still looking for, is the one which crashed on our island on Juli 26th 1941. This was
NG-A, N-6035 van 7 Squadron. The crew bailed out and were taken POW. We would like very much to have photo's and data of the crew and the aircraft.

Thanks for helping!

Kees

Hello,

We already corresponded in an other forum.
I've since found a short account of Les Hillyard, Flight Engineer onboard LJ943, published in the excellent book of Dennis Williams 'Stirlings in action with the airborne forces'. If you don't have this account, tell me and I'll scan it.
I've also written to a friend who was in contact with Dennis to ask him if he has a photo of LJ943.
Best regards.

As mentioned in a PM to Kees, I will endeavour to come up with some details over the Xmas period.
Best Wishes to all our members.

Kind regards,

Hello John and Bruno

Thank you both for your reply. I hope this will take us a bit further.
I do not know the book 'Stirlings in action with the airborne forces' so a scan would be great! And our hopes are on a photo of the aircraft itself.
As it happens I have found photo's (!) of some of the crew in the magnificient book of Arie-Jan van Hees called 'Green on' . Do you know this book?

Merry Christmas to you both and all other readers.

Hi Kees,

I know the book 'Green On' but I don't have it at the moment. I expect to buy it.
I'll scan you the account as soon as I come back home on Sunday.
Best regards.

Bruno

Merry Christmas to all!

Hello Bruno

Thanks! Another piece in the puzzle. Still hoping for photos of the aircraft itself.

By the way, do you have any tips on Stirling N-6035?
