Airfix Short Stirling with White Ensign P.E. sets. Finished

Post by CavOk »

Short Stirling B1 of No 7 squadron RAF Bomber Command late summer 1941 when based at Oakington. This model is based on the elderly Airfix kit and I’ve employed the White Ensign P.E. for the interior especially the cockpit. Like a lot of P.E. if you use all of it and there’s plenty of it most of it will never see daylight once the fuselage is closed up. I made the decision not to spend time building inaccessible interior details as I couldn’t see the point. Others may have a different opinion.
The main work was the reduction of the thickness of the wings, the eradication of all raised rivet detail and reworking all of the control surfaces. Also the undercarriage which I made from scratch apart from the WEM weighted wheels.
Apart from the cockpit canopy all of the transparencies came from a Falcon Clear – Vax sheet. The bomb bay which you can see in the build diary is entirely scratch built apart from the WEM bomb carriers.
Hope you like it.
Mike

Well..... I'll go to the foot of our stairs .............. and you can go to the top of the class! Now, can you entertain us with something else please? We will happily give you a day or two to think about it - basically anything between 1930 and 1946, British or American and four engines or more.

PS. Personally I think I would need to re group for a little while!

Excellent work Mike, really one to be proud of. You've captured the essence of the ugly bird very well.
