Vickers Wellington MkII
Vickers Wellington MkII
Here’s one I made earlier, hope you like it.
Vickers Wellington II, W5461 of No. 104 Squadron, RAF Driffield Yorkshire circa early 1941. This particular aircraft was one of 300 ordered from Weybridge in 1940 and delivered between 7th October 1940 and the 4th May 1941.
It wears the standard Bomber Command camouflage of dark green over dark earth with night black undersides ending in a wavy demarcation high on the fuselage.
It failed to return from a raid on Berlin on the night of 12th/13th August 1941

That is really nice - dare I say one or two notches above your Stirling. Simply because you have caught an "atmosphere" so to speak - it looks just a little weary - has that typical "Wimpey" look - a hardworking aircraft - which they acquired more quickly than other machines because of their construction and fabric covering- things flexed more you see and there was less resistance to wear and tear!
So anything else with which you can titillate our palates?
For Wellington fans may I mention that there are two ex "Wimpey" boys near me - one is Ken Wallis (the auto gyro man) who had some hairy moments. On one occasion he hit a balloon cable which eventually broke and enable him to return home in one piece. He still has the bit of cable in his home among other souvenirs and artefacts. He is also an amazing engineer.

Re: Vickers Wellington MkII
That's reassuring, I have the Trumpeter Wellington MkIII ready to build after the Fortress, Steve's 1/72nd Wimpy and my 3 Mosquitoes! Reckon I'll get round to it in about 2020 with my rate of progress.CavOk wrote:This is the Trumpeter 1/48 MkIc converted using the Alleycat Mk II resin engines.ME453 wrote:Another excellent looking build Mike, which kit and scale?

Great to see a Wimpey, Mike, beautifully rendered too. What's your next project?
