1/48 Lockheed Ventura MkII

Post by CavOk »

The Lockheed Ventura MkII is the latest project. So far I've started the basic interior which includes modifications to the rear cockpit bulkhead, and removal of the co-pilots controls. From the stash I've robbed an old 1/72nd Lancaster of its cockpit blisters for the main cockpit canopy.
Doubtless an aftermarket replacement canopy with the correct blisters will soon follow . Pity the A2Zee ones have all gone.

In this update the office has been fixed in place along with the bomb bay roof and the fuselage windows.
The modified canopy with the added blisters is shown in a trial fit before the fuselage is closed up. The blisters were fixed in place using Klear which is both transparent and strong.
To one side is the WIP engines.

Progress! The main components have been assembled and await clean up once the cement has cured. I must say the fit of the parts is exemplary.
The only filler so far is on the redundant under wing fuel tank positions. The RAF MkIIs didn't have them.

I've spent this afternoon masking out the canopies using a combination of the kit masks which are very good and Tamiya tape.
Next will be the assembly of the turret and more cleaning up around the wings and fuselage.
Till the next.

In this update the nose transparencies have been mated with the fuselage and the fit appears to be pretty good.

In this picture you can see the wings dry slotted into place and the fit is again exemplary. So much so I'm tempted to leave the wings off till last to make painting easier.
Image
The underside of the fuselage needed a little fettling but nothing serious and the fit of the lower gunners transparency was excellent.
Next will be some clean up of the nose section and then a wash in mild detergent to get rid of the dust and rubbish and then the cockpit canopy can be permanently fitted.
Till the next
