Italeri Short Stirling

Hi all,

Although I've been a member of the forums for awhile, this is my first post. I just completed this 72nd scale Italeri Stirling Mk.I, with markings for No. 214 Sqn. It's a tribute to all who flew or serviced this bomber but specifically to Murray Peden, author of "A Thousand Shall Fall," who flew Stirlings with this squadron. Supposedly there is a photograph of this specific aircraft although I don't have it in any of my books or sources, so I have no idea how accurate my build is.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Mark

HI

Very nice model! Not sure what you are asking though, do you want to know how accurate your model is?

It is as it came out of the box or have you modified it?

I think that I have seen pictures of the Saint somewhere!

Cheers
James

Hello James, and thanks for the comments!

I built mine out of the box, making a few minor corrections based on some information I had been told about elsewhere (there were a number of corrections mentioned, but I only did the easiest ones).

In regards to accuracy, my apologies for not explaining myself better. I was referring to the specific airplane I was modeling. For instance, I have been told that BU-A possibly had the FN50 dorsal turret instead of the FN7A turret included in the kit. Also, Print Scale decals provide the saint figure for both sides of the nose, but I only chose to place it on the port side since most photographs of other Stirlings seem to indicate this was the norm. There are other things I was concerned about, but those are the main two.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Mark

I can't track down your aircraft serial or squadron marking? That doesn't mean anything of course, but neither have I found any Saint pics!

Cheers
James

Thanks Bruno,

That matches the number provided by Print Scale for these decals.

Cheers,

Mark

Congratulations on a perfect model, Mark.
Faultless really.
Hope we see more.
If you really want a challenge, try the injection blow mould 1:48 Sanger Short Stirling scale.

Thank you, John, you are too generous with your comments. And having looked at your experience with the Sanger Stirling, I have to admit I don't mind challenges but I'm no glutton for punishment!

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,
I'm sure, should you decide, that you could build a great example of the model.

Have you or any other member come across the Handley Page Halifax Mk.III 6042 Fonderie Miniature 1:48 scale model?
I've tried looking for one for several years now but to no avail.

If anyone finds any news about any re-releases, please let us know.
I've got the Lancaster, the Stirling but need the Halifax to complete the 'Heavies' in 1:48 scale.

Cheers,
John

John, I just checked eBay and found one currently being bid on. Unfortunately for you, it appears the seller only ships to the mainland US:
