POINTBLANK

Not one usually for books on the US 8th Air Force, but I enjoyed this from a Yank view point, sad to say that they did destroy the Luftwaffe by day.

Hi John,

The US 8th Air Force fighters were the main players in defeating the Luftwaffe and making the bomber offensive by day successful. Of this there is no question, the stats of destroyed Bf09 & FW190’s speak for themselves.

What this book does is go beyond that and explores how the US fighters contributed towards the success (both short term and long term ) of Bomber Commands bombing campaign. What was interesting was the number of Me110 & JU88 destroyed not only in the air but when the US fighters ( post Pointblank ) were given the opportunity to seek out targets especially on the ground how many were destroyed, these fighters would have been used specifically against Bomber Command. It also deals with the effect it had on training of pilots ( both day & night ).

All in all it made a considerable contribution towards RAF Bomber Commands victory.
