Overshoot the Green TI's

Post by smudgersmith218 »

Gents,

Just want to bring to your attention the painting below depicting a No.218 (Gold Coast) squadron Avro Lancaster attacking St Vith on Boxing Day 1945.

The artist is the respected Mark Postlethwaite GAvA; the painting was commissioned by Mark Laity the son of the rear gunner. I was asked to help in the initial stages of the painting, raid details etc. I am sure you will agree the painting is excellent. I have a print copy in my study and I can assure you that it is a remarkable painting. You can visit the artists web site at http://www.posart.com/ and order a copy !!!

Hope you enjoy !!

Steve

Very nice indeed, Steve.
I think the painting on his webpage of the aircrew walking out to their aircraft is even better.Cheers,
John

Hi John,

Yes that too is a wonderful painting, the picture above does not do the painting justice. I took it with my camera phone. The depth of colour and the Green TI's jump out the page.

I have just sent off for Eagle Owl (Hs219) print, great artist.

Good luck with the Lions Game !

What struck me about the painting on the webpage, is how similar it is, (the angle of the aircraft, the foreground and trees behind) to a Coulson painting i've had on my wall for years.

There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

Hi Alan,

I would suggest what ever angle or angle you painted a Lancaster it would have been done before. The same was said about my commission "Encounters over Witten "

Both paintings by Coulson and Postlethwaite are excellent in opinion.

Off down the pub to try and beer away the loss to the Aussies, great game and well done Australia, well deserved.
