Lancaster Archive Forum...
Re: Lancaster Archive Forum...
My having been introduced to the Stirling at 1654 HCU, I was very surprised at it's seemingly large size by comparison to the Wimpey. We soon learned that it was a pleasure to fly in once airborne, it's landing & take off vices being already well known.
Fortunately it qualified me to become a member of this great forum intoduced to me by John, for which I am most grateful.
It is sad to see the closure of the LAF and hope somehow that it may be recovered.
Dennis

Re: Lancaster Archive Forum...
All this happened while I was away and out of circulation for 5 weeks so it's quite a shock to return home and find the LAF closed. I admit I've had my issues with it in the past, as have many of us, but as a resource for sharing information, for meeting new people, for those seeking advice etc., it was invaluable. I sincerely hope that this wonderful site and forum under John and Bruno's guidance can take over where the LAF has left off.
May I add to an earlier comment by John that both Adam and I "specialise" in 467 and 463 squadrons and will always welcome any queries or snippets of information about either.
Regards to all

Welcome back Max, I fully agree with your LAF feelings and am sure that this forum will greet the Lancaster buffs with open arms.
Dennis,
Dennis,
Re: Lancaster Archive Forum...
the Lancaster Archive appears to be returning under http://www.lancasterbombers.net/BomberC ... toryForum/ but whether or not any of the info. on LAF has gone over I have not yet discovered.
Re: Lancaster Archive Forum...
It seems to be a totally new site, who is in charge of it
There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

Hi all,
Yes, the BCHF is a totally new forum with new ideas. It has nothing to do with the LAF.
The LAF was, a good source of info and place to meet new friends with common interests, but it was shut down and so left a a bit of an online void.
The BCHF motto says it all: Keeping the past alive ..., for future generations.

Grand - if it is all the old school and some new folk then that is fine. We happy band and all that.......
It is rather strange but I am meeting more and more people - from all generations who are now recognising what Bomber Command was all about - who knows they may even have it on the curriculum in schools - must have a word with Michael Gove who seems a fairly go ahead chap, although I can understand some teachers not favouring him - may mean a bit more effort on their part!
If I sound grumpy - well more so than usual - it is because it is too hot - 29 today - yuk!! Yes I know you upside down people have it that hot in the winter but we are sensitive up here on the high side of the world.

Since the Headmaster, of the Infant/Junior school, where i'm caretaker, became aware of my interest in Bomber Command. Every year, the two 6th year classes do work on the subject, and i am invited in to each class to give a talk, answer questions, and read their individual work.

Very pleasing to hear Alan but like me you are well away from the so called hub of things - the South & South East (where I used to live). There is a much more rational approach I feel among those away from the home counties. It is quite usual for example that the children here have days off to welcome home the local Battalion or RAF Squadron from a tour when they parade through the Towns. Yes, in fact I am quite optimistic.
