Eric Atkinson
William "Stan" Long

They don't appear on the ORB pages for that date.

Re: RAF Service Numbers
Hi Mary,
Bruno will probably have the correct details.
All I have is;
Pilot, FO A. Atkinson (No 153846)
Bomb aimer, FO W. S. Long (No 165358)
Wireless operator, FO H. Ashton (No 172733)
I'm sure Bruno will be along shortly.
Regards,
Wayne.

Re: RAF Service Numbers
Hello,
Unfortunately I only have Sgt William Flynn's service number to add, this is 1824033 because F/O Atkinson had only flown 13 hours on Short Stirling at the time of the crash and so there are very few info in the docs I have where there aren't the service numbers.
Kind regards.
Bruno

Re: RAF Service Numbers
If these are their full names you may be able to find the service numbers using the AIR78 index at the National Archives (or at least get a list of possibles [although the names look fairly common, so likely to be lots of entries]).
I am happy to have a look to see what I can find if no-one else is able to come up with a number (as it is a slow process!)
Regards
Pete

Re: RAF Service Numbers
There is a file for the Court of Inquiry, which includes the loss of LJ899, available from the N/A. Reference AIR16/405.

might be worth putting an online request for an estimate for copying.

There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.
Re: RAF Service Numbers
I have had a quick look at AIR78 but there are too many William Wright (he could also be one of the W Wright).
Anyway, if all else fails here is the link: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... 3&page=112

Re: RAF Service Numbers
I find H.Ashton 172733 in London Gazette re 23 April 1956 retaining rank [Flying Officer].
Does this imply anything about his likely DOB??

Hi Mary, I'm probably stating the obvious but have you had a look at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site for your searches?
