Hi Dom,
Very interesting!
Even if the Stirling could easily tow the 'big' Hamilcar, only the 38 Group Halifaxes Squadrons (298 & 644 Squadrons) flew operational missions with Hamilcar gliders.
I don't know why Halifaxes Squadrons were chosen and not Stirling Squadrons.
It is also said that the corpulent Hamilcar Glider was a pleasure to pilot.

I just love Flight Global for pictures.... One of the other forums mentioned a film archive where if you register you can access films taken during the war. Am going to have to go back and find the link cos there was some Stirling and Lanc stuff in there.
