Cheers, Tom ................... The hostilities of war are obviously 'water off a ducks back' for that young chap.
While were looking at Flying Fortresses ( re : Max's model ) Here is another interesting image.
I'm hoping the skipper had a good explanation.

This is unusual purely because it is almost 'front on' image and that it is in colour.

What's the old saying, Any landing you can walk away from is a good one? Bet that caused a bit of a traffic jam though!

I don,t think the B17 pilot mistook it for a "fly over" ,...it,s being towed. He may have force landed on the freeway out of shot? There is no damage to the bridge,,. not yet anyway.

Fancy trying to tow it up there with the props and outer wings still attached!.......Doh! :)

Hello,

B-17 , picture taken when the US Air Force Museum collection was moved from Patterson Field to Wright Field in 1971.
Dozens of aircraft were moved simultaneously on public roads for a towing distance of about six miles; it was accomplished on a Sunday morning to avoid high traffic.

Great picture Bruno 8-) must have taken some serious coordination to make sure the props didn't get ripped of on the guard rail

Spare a thought to for the people in the ARP - who often stood on buildings during a raid and one of the duties they had was to spot fires! It was not unknown for the building they were on to be hit and catch fire. I think had there been a HSE in those days they may well have been incarcerated for seemingly to help the enemy?
