This is "sloping shoulders" to a certain extent Simon, but if you join the RAF Commands forum (google it) you'll find some very knowledgeable and helpful researchers there who may be better placed to help you and who have archive material which may throw light on your query.

You could try downloading the following file http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... r/C4005964 to see if you can find his service number, but be warned, it is a huge file and he could be listed as Kenneth Austen Thomas, K Thomas, KA Thomas or any other combination. You can also view the file online but it is a slow and painful process.

It may also be worth contacting RAF Cranwell to ask if there is any chance of finding his service record based on the information that you have.

Good luck with your search

Regards

Pete

I've found a little more information regarding my uncle Ken:-

Name. Kenneth Austin Thomas
Born. 1/3/16
Died. 27/8/91
Civilian occupation. Mechanic (up to 1939) for Tommy Spann (TT Racer)
Enlistment. Late '41 or early '42
Possible service number. 1670546 ( have no confirmation but it does belong to a K.A. Thomas)
Initial base. RAF Padgate (Warrington)
Further training. No1 flight, No4 Squadron, No10 ITW (Scarborough).
Course 80, 13 EFTS, St Eugene, Ontario. Photo dated 22/6/43 of training group next to bi-plane.
Course 84, No17 SFTS, Souris, Manitoba. Graduation banquet menu containing approx 40 names and
signatures of graduates.

I'm hoping to be able to confirm that the service number definitely belongs to him before I part with £30 for a service record that may not be the right man. My mother has unearthed a few photos but nothing bearing his number unfortunately.

Can anybody tell me if there is a way to confirm his service number and although I believe his medals to have been issued I'd love to know what his entitlement was.

Thanks

Simon

HI

have you tried Forces War Records?

https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/na ... dYear=2016

(look at the end of these records for initial only records)
