Been back and forth to this one several times, thinking that i had it, but no joy! :(

I've narrowed it down to an ........ aircraft!
Might go even further and stick my neck out and say, American.

Looks like a early Fortress, say ....... prototype 299............... which matches the glass nosing shape, the side front window and the radar mount on top.

well John, I'm a bit lost as to where to go now? As shown below, your challenge photo and my reply ......... the 299.
Could it be the Boeing VB-17G Flying Fortress.
