The two tubes were operated by yanking on handles connected to Bowden cables just to the pilots left and covered by nice leather flaps, these may be the items you mention. They look a little like holsters. The big reconnaissance tube was manual so you would have to assume that they did not have to fly on after dropping the bombs in order to take pics unless a crew member was given the task of dropping it at the same time as the bombs.
Later flare dispensers used the Tri-Cell device and these were apparently all electrically operated and so could be 'dropped' automatically by the bomb release mechanism.
Interestingly the two smaller tubes have lids that can be locked down while the bigger one is just open ended, that may imply that the flares were loaded and left on board and protected against accidental contact.

Here's a pic of the Flare section with the small, inner door open. You can see the Bowden cables ending 2/3 down from the top the small tubes. The Y shape 'tubes' are actually 'bungees' that keep the flaps closed. I've drawn the early version of the flare launcher tubes sitting at about 40 odd degrees, later the tubes were fitted at a steeper angle to give a better downward force, you would have to assume that the flares were being jammed halfway out by the airflow. Not nice if the fuse had started...

And looking down with the full parachute exit open. You can see the 'window' that would appear under the Stirling. There is some evidence that this was even in the MKIII. It is odd to think of the aircraft having such a window but with so few pics of the underside of the Stirling there is little definitive evidence one way or the other.

Starting work on the Rear Turret now. There are many many photographs of this item but often there isn't one at the right angle!

One of the joys of 3D modelling is the ability to see views that no-one bothered to take pictures of at the time. The animation of the bullets in the rear turret isn't anywhere near what I'd like but I need to move on! The turret isn't finished but here are a couple of shots. Hmm there are some issues with the fuselage too but all in good time!
