Snag and Defect books
Not sure if in the right section but ... I recently acquired for the collection two exercise books... originally thought to be relating to 100 Squadron Waltham ... but after a little rudimentary checking now not so sure ... but a fascinating insight into what the aircraft came back like .. see attached..
Cheers

Re: Snag and Defect books
Hi
Fascinating reading, it's history like this that really brings home what it was like to be part of a bomber squadron I think. Long shots of aeroplanes and reports of 'bit hairy over Berlin' are OK for films and general reading but such documents and talking to aircrew directly have so much more 'depth'.
I don't find the text too easy to read but looking forward to the next ones!

Re: Snag and Defect books
Hi
My real problem with these notes is reading 'script', the clarity is OK but bigger does help! In school we were taught italics so I'm not used to an 's' not looking like an 's' for example
For example the 6th line down reads to me as "Guard plus bassmellor Meridith kept", the last line contains "All ltuned".
I've studied the circuits and systems on the Stirling and the faults are quite interesting (OK to me possibly) from my electronics background.

Re: Snag and Defect books
Hi James ..
I must admit the writing at times is a little hard to make out ... and I hate to admit that unfortunately the squadron were on Lancasters but in my less than technical background I would assume a number of basic factors are shared such as hydraulics ...
Will see if I can find a few more readable ones ...

Re: Snag and Defect books
Another entry that captures a moment in time so to speak 17 / 7 / 1944 ...
written up in greater detail in the excellent 100 Squadron Operational Record by I.Reid
(The two pages illustrated should be side by side ... any help appreciated John ... )
