Gents,
Not Bomber Command but one of the "Few".
Flight Lieutenant Charles Palliser
Flight Lieutenant Charles Palliser, who has died aged 92, shot down four enemy aircraft and shared in the destruction of seven others while flying Hurricanes during the Battle of Britain and, a year later, over Malta.

As you say Steve, another of the 'few' is gone but won't be forgotten.
Can you please comment on this quote from the clipping ..........
Thanks,
John

...... I wasn't aware that Hurricanes carried a bomb load.In September the squadron received new Hurricanes, and for a few nights went on the offensive, Palliser bombing and strafing Comiso airfield in Sicily. A few nights later he bombed the railway at Gela .
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I know that in the Middle and Far East, they used Hurri's and Spits as fighter bombers. Hurri's in the role were nicknamed Hurribombers.

There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

There's great newsreel footage of Hurribombers (MkIIc) with 4x 40m.m. cannon training on a range in the Middle East. I only have it on VHS though, so until I get round to transferring stuff to DVD I can't post.
