Re: The Stirling Aircraft Project
There are a few items scattered around, unfortunately no-one seems keen to part with them
Thankfully however, most museums are fairly happy to let you have access to exhibits to measure them. The problem mainly occurs with private collectors who won't. I know of a private individual who has a semi complete front turret cupola who steadfastly refuses to let anyone have access to it and another has an original main instrument panel. It seems to be that some people think that by copying their origonal it devalues the value of theirs......
If you can let me know where the tailplane exhibit is I'd very much appreciate it
thanks
John

Re: The Stirling Aircraft Project
Curious - I can understand some art collectors taking that attitude - but had I such a treasure I would be pleased to share it. I take it he really has got one?
Will let you know how i get one but cannot get down there for a little while.

Re: The Stirling Aircraft Project
Thanks for that Dave
I had a feeling that might be where it was located. Must get out there sometime (not a million miles away) and thanks for the heads up on the opening times

Morning all
please see attached photo of the first control column bolted together. The wheel is only slaved into position for the time being but the column structure is permanemtly assembled.

Re: The Stirling Aircraft Project
A little bit of progress over the weekend, the Navigator's instrument manel is almost totally populated now with just a dimmer switch to be added (When I can find some suitable 6BA screws and nuts). Control columns are moving along but there's a myriad of small spacers and special washers to make along with getting hold of correct slotted nuts etc to assemble them all together. When they're finally assembled I'll total up the number items required for each one. It'll probably surprise and scare me once I've done it!
Anyway here's a photo of the (nearly) finished nav's panel
