Progress Pictures

All

I have added some pictures of the Project’s recent activities to the Stirling Aircraft Project web site.
If you received the Newsletter you will notice that the rudder trim position dial on the Trim Box now has the correct colours, we hope to have the elevator dials in the near future to complete the refurbishment.

Hi All

I have added some flight deck progress pictures to the Stirling Aircraft Project web site. The pilot's footrests and seat harness mechanisms are now complete. The P1 seat is only outstanding the armour plate which will be the next task. We have also reassembled the rudder and elevator trim control box now we have all the components, a final grease and paint touchup all that is needed to finish. We were concerned that the elevator dials would prove difficult to make but Bedford Model Engineers came good. We have also started to make the Autopilot control panel but are outstanding a complete 6H 356 Attitude Control.

Hi All

I have just added an update to the Projects Progress web site which includes pictures of two Short Stirling Flight Engineers, Burt Turner and Dough Vince, who recently visited the Project at Alconbury. The most recent RAF News has a short article on Bert's visit, see link https://www.rafnews.co.uk/, and details of Doug's time with the Stirling was featured on TV and press during last years lockdown.

Just a quick New Years update. Please see the Project website

https://stirlingproject.co.uk

First and foremost is the delivery of the bomb frame sections for frames 6 to 14, 27 items in all, laser cut by AMADA UK of Kidderminster. With the formers recently delivered we are now ready to start shaping the frames by bending the flanges, adding reinforcing strips and forming the lightening holes.

Other recent activities include the return of the FN5 nose turret that was on loan to the RAF Wyton Heritage Centre. Making of the support at frame 5 for the Port side of the flight deck ready to be fitted once the bomb bay roof is fitted. The pilot’s seat back armour requires a few minor items fitted but since the last update has got a coat of paint. We have also joined sections of Witch’s hat section that will form the fuselage and bomb bay stringers.

Much work ahead now the bomb frames can be prepared, and the bomb bay jig under construction.
