149 Squadron Info wanted
149 Squadron Info wanted
Hi All
I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone can help me. My Uncle was killed when his stirling LK385 was shot down on the return flight of operation titanic in the early hours of DDay morning. He was Sergeant Frank William Bellamy. We know he is buried in Baudre church in france and the grave is looked after by the war graves commission, but I was hoping that someone here could point me in the direction of a book of rememberance or a memorial to the squadron in the uk so that I can take my mum his sister along to seee it. I know there is a roll of honour in St Georges church at Methwold which I have been kindly pointed in the direction of by Larry. Any further help would be greatfully appreciated.

Re: 149 Squadron Info wanted
Hello,
An idea could be to visit the RAF Methwold Memorial as it was from this station that Stirling LK385 took-off.
Here is a link to this memorial:

As you probably know a page is dedicated to the crew of Stirling LK385:

Best regards.

Re: 149 Squadron Info wanted
Thanx to the previous poster for the Mildenhall Register link. It is http://www.mildenhallregister.stirlingpilot.org.uk
The Loss refered to was one of the 7 Stirlings of 149 Sqn sent on "Feignt" missions with the 1/2 scale paratroopers and Pintails as their drop load. The 149 contingent was led by their C.O. Wing Cmdr M E Pickford. Your aircraft LK385 flown by Sqn Ldr CJK Hutchins was on the Titanic III mission and was shot down as known.
Your crew member is in the 149 Roll of Honour book.I have seen it and it is well worth a visit, as is the Methwold church. Previous notification would help to ensure the book was available.
Hope this helps
