Wing Commander Henry Ellis 'Pluto' ANGELL DFC

Post by Bruno »

Dear all,

I regret to have to tell you that Wing commander Henry Ellis 'Pluto' Angell DFC died on 5th December.
Bill Angell was the Officer Commanding two Stirling Squadrons (295 & 296 Squadrons, 38 Group) during World War II.
Bill had flew in 207 & 196 (Stirling) Squadrons in Bomber Command and after in 295 & 296 Squadrons in 38 Group where he flew three perilous missions in Operation Marken Garden in September 1944 and Operation 'Varsity', the biggest airborne Operation of all times, in March 1945.
You'll find some pages dedicated to Bill at this link:
http://www.207squadron.rafinfo.org.uk/angell/
And a link to his DFC:

A great man who was my inspiration in the creation of the 38 Group website has gone.
Bill's funeral is at the Guildford Crematorium at 12 noon on 21st December.
Best regards.

Bruno

Yes, I know they can't go on forever but one still feels the loss.
