Real Life aircraft challenge

Post by ME453 »

Richard Koval, over on TOCH, put up a rather indistinct "strike" photo taken from a Lancaster on an op., he was asking for opinions regarding the silhouette. I've done some work with Photobucket and produced this: any thoughts gentlemen?

Looks a bit like a Manchester. And then again it doesn't. Do we have any idea of the date ?

Isn't that a Ju88?

PAFG could well be right, although the engines look a tad close to the fuselage for a JU88 to me. But it's a good point - this photo doesn't give any idea of scale.

Definitely think it's a lanc....... certainly looks like a port side engine there.

Could be, John, but what do you think happened to No 4 ? A victim of flak ? Or maybe Photoshop ? ;)

Judging by wing and tailplane shape, definatley a Lanc, wingspan looks too much for Manchester.
There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

Hi Upkeep and AlanW,

I'm thinking that engine 4 is clouded over and or alike.

Strange, isn't it? Taking a second look it looks very like a Lancaster/Manchester - if Lanc, then the blurring has lost the starboard outer and very nearly the port outer. If a Manchester, then the blurring has very nearly added in a port outer. If you see what I mean :?: Almost as if Kodak were saying 'Roy. Roy... ...take another look... '
