Shaun

The DFM citation as recorded in The Distinguished Flying Medal Register by Ian Tavender is :

Collar William Walter 18000707 Flight Sergeant : No. 7 Sqn
L.G. 16/2/1945 : Sorties 45, Flying Hours 218.15 Flight Engineer Air2/8829

Flight Sergeant Collar is the Flight Engineer of an outstanding crew. Of a total of 45 sorties completed, 34 have been in the Pathfinder Force and 27 of these have been completed in a marker crew. This N.C.O. by his unflinching devotion to duty under the most hazardous conditions has helped considerably in a great number of highly successful operational sorties carried out by the fine crew of which he is a member. He has always given cheerful co-operation and has, by dogged determination, always carried out anything asked of him. His strong sense of duty is very highly commendable.

20th. November 1944

You indicated F/Sgt. Collar was DFM Bar. I could not see evidence of a second DFM award.

Douglas,
The award of the 2nd DFM is seen in John's link to the LG notice, in the previous reply.
There is no paralell in warfare, to such courage and determination in the face of danger, over so long a period. Such devotion, should never be forgotten.

Alan

I can only see F/Sgt. Collar's citation as the award of the DFM and not as a Bar. If it was a Bar, would the LG not have recorded him a being DFM in the first place?
