Captured Stirling in Luftwaffe Markings
Hello everybody,
Just wanted to bring back a very interesting 'entry' regarding photos of a captured Short Stirling, in Luftwaffe markings.
These photos come from our good friends, Peter Evans and his crew, from the http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/
Many thanks Peter, for allowing us to view these most unusual pictures. I would like to invite members to have a look at their excellent site.
Regards,
John

Re: Captured Stirling in Luftwaffe Markings
Thought this post would be worth bringing back for the sake of new members. A very rare find indeed.

Re: Captured Stirling in Luftwaffe Markings
Great stuff - not seen some of those before. And I love the "heath robinson" make do and mend repair to the damaged nose area.
Another example was with the Halifax. (Bless it) The Bomb bay was not deep enough to take the two 4000lb bombs. So it flew with them only partially closed. Airflow was attempted to be improved by tarpaulin over the front end. This did not improve things particularly and I think it was rarely used. In fact the open doors did not seem to interfere with performance anyway. And any rude remarks will result in punishment.
Ahhh... just noticed -I have left "corporal"behind. Can now sit back and watch others. Posts from now on will be scarce.

David ............... you keep leading with the chin! This did not improve things particularly and I think it was rarely used. In fact the open doors did not seem to interfere with performance anyway. And any rude remarks will result in punishment.
I sincerely hope the last comment proves to be a fallacy.

I think I sent this photo to John before, but I'll post it in case I didn't.
It shows the repairs being made to the Stirling before flight.
Wayne.

Yes, thanks Wayne .............. now that you have posted it .............. it does jog the old brain cells.
Would be very interested to know if this may be back in the Old Dart. Can't really see the hills of Norfolk in the backdrop but I'd like to hear more.

Chaps,
I think these series of photo's were taken when No.7 Squadron Stirling was at the Reichlin Test Centre near Berlin. ?

Quick check,
Short Stirling Mk.I N3705 MG-F failed to return from a mining sortie, skipper Joe Orrell.
There is a series of photographs in Tom Docherty's No.7 Squadron RAF in WW.II page 74-75-76 all of which are credited to have been taken a Reichlin.
