I took all of these pictures last summer when I visited RAF Elvington near York.

Re: RAF Gun Turrets Collection
Great photos there, Max. Especially like the last batch from the museum, brilliant ! Goes to show that we never stop learning ........... regarding the mid upper turrets, 'the two arms with rollers on them -
I never knew of them until I posted that photo above of the Lanc .............. and then you posted some with them on there as well.
I trust that they allowed the guns to rotate to the shape of the fairing?
Here are a few more of interest.
Cheers,
John

Re: RAF Gun Turrets Collection
John, yes they did deflect the guns from the structure, they were called the interruptor gear. The mid upper had a 360' field of fire.

Re: RAF Gun Turrets Collection
Those two "arms" below the guns are called taboo arms, they follow the shape of the fairing as the turret rotates and prevent the gunner shooting off his own tail. The early Lancs didn't have the fairings but somebody obviously thought it was a good idea!!

Re: RAF Gun Turrets Collection
Thought this was a Stirling at first glance but thinking it is a Wellington and rear gunner.
