German Flak Towers Images
Hi folks, I was doing a bit more researching and came across some articles on flak towers.
Such a mass of concrete, even todays' governments are loathed to take them down.
If anyone wishes to add more images or details, please do and lists all credits.
Cheers,
John

Re: German Flak Towers Images
Okay, John,
I can't resist your charme, so here are some pictures from my father-in-law, but let me start with an explication: he was (from 1939 up to September 1944) allways travelling with his flak-battery all across Germany, Pilsen (today Czech Republic) and France, because their "Flak's" were fixed on trains, not on towers (or trucks) like shown mostly on the pictures above...
picture taken in Nürnberg, Nov. 1941, where they had to defend the "Diplomaten-Bahnhof" (Railwaystation for high-rankin foreign diplomats) did you remark the 4 white rings on the gun barrel?
You will understand what they mean when I show you another picture, but now I have to make a break - I will continue

Hi Christophe
Great pictures, always interesting to see the 'unofficial' pictures that have lain around hidden for years. Always something more 'people' about them I find.

Great stuff, Christophe ................. as James has said, images & details from private collection provide the best stories.

Please feel free to post more.

John

Re: German Flak Towers Images
ok, let's go on:
now you see the meaning of the white stripes: My father in law (19 years old), the second from left side: and that's what is called "Rohr-Krepierer" in german ("barrel burst"):

and here some more:
and once again "Leutnant Wars" as "Batterieführer" (on the right) - doesn't he look like a hollywood-nazi, maybe the young Marlon Brando ?
