Not a Stirling but the next best thing !!

Post by smudgersmith218 »

This is a oil painting I had done from the late great Keith Aspinal. I had a number of prints made that are avialable from the 218 Association, I hope you like.

As a bit of a dauber myself, what I can see of both paintings looks very good Steve, but can they be re-sized to make them smaller?

Lovely painting Steve,

Is the bottom lanc squadron code LE - D for Dog? ..........or is it JE- D?

A new member and good friend of mine Neale ME739 , has a great interest in LE-D.

Hi John,
Looks like the lower Lancaster is probably is JE-D.
Great painting, I have it as my desktop background lol, just a slightly smaller size.

Wayne.

Hi John & Wayne,

Yes the Lancaster was JE-D PB196 flown by F/O A A Kennedy RAAF of No.195 (B) Squadron based at RAF Wratting Common. No.31 Base ( 186-195-218 Sqds ) On this raid on Witten No.3 Group was led by 31 Base and F/Lt Les Harlow RAFVR and crew were lead GH crew. This gaggle was hit hard by Bf109's & FW190's. Harlow and crew were the only survivors from this gaggle, they claimed a Bf109 destroyed. No.195 were hard hit in the encounter losing four crews, 218 lost two crew, one from flak ( crew survived ditching off English Coast).

Any way off out with my Terriers.

Regards
